CSO Research Advisory Committee

All research grant applications to the Chief Scientist Office are assessed by the Research Advisory Committee. The Committee has two panels, dealing respectively with applications for research in Experimental & Translation Medicine and Health Services & Population Health.

The composition of the Committee is vital and CSO wishes to ensure that each has good coverage in terms of its expertise by topic/subject, discipline, and research methods. Each panel has between 12-15 members, including lay members, who serve fixed terms The committee consider applications for project (and programme) funding, applications for supplementary funding, and they also assess the final reports of funded studies.

Committee membership is continuously reviewed in order to ensure that the committees are fit for purpose. If you are interested in becoming involved in CSO’s work we would like to hear from you. Please email a CV and a covering letter to Mark Elsdon which sets out your particular expertise in terms of subject areas, discipline and research methods, any relevant experience gained from other committees etc and we will keep your details on file for consideration as places become available. Final decisions on membership are taken by CSO, in consultation with Committee chairs. A Code of Conduct exists for both committee and panel members.

Archived minutes from Committee meetings prior to 2012 are available for both ETMRC and HSPRC.
