Consumer (patient/carer) Opportunities to join NCRI Clinical Studies Groups

Do you know someone with personal experience of cancer? Do they want to get involved in helping to design & deliver cancer research in the UK?

NCRI are looking to recruit patients, carers and others affected by cancer to join the National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI)’s Clinical Studies Group (CSG). The 19 National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Clinical Studies Groups (CSGs) that develop portfolios of research including clinical trials for specific cancer types or treatments. This includes considering new research questions, developing proposals for studies, securing funding and overseeing the portfolio of existing studies.

All NCRI CSGs have 2 consumer members (patient/carer representatives) and each CSG meets at least twice a year. Consumer members participate in all aspects of the CSGs activities and are expected to provide written updates for each CSG meeting. CSG consumers also become members of the NCRI Consumer Forum.

NCRI are currently seeking consumer members for the following CSGs:

·         Breast ·         Lymphoma
·         Gynaecological ·         Skin
·         Haematological Oncology ·         Supportive and Palliative Care
·         Head and Neck

Applicants should have:

  • An interest in cancer research
  • Personal experience of cancer or caring for someone with cancer
  • Experience of working in groups/committees
  • Time to participate fully in CSG activities, including telephone and email discussions
  • Excellent communication skills

The deadline for applications is Monday 14 November. All interviews will take place during the first two weeks of December, 2016.
