Director Post at the Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit

The Director post at the Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit (NMAHP) is currently being advertised (closing date 31 August). NMAHP is a national research unit core funded by the Chief Scientist Office (CSO). CSO Units undertake research in areas of strategic need, provide policy advice and train researchers. Their chief role is as centres of excellence for research disciplines that are central to Scotland’s health needs.

The Director is responsible for all aspects of the running of the Unit across both sites, including strategy, development, research, staffing, finance, training activities, governance arrangements, and all outputs. Responsibilities will be in line with CSO guidance on managing core funded research units regarding unit structure and staffing, financial issues, governance arrangements and unit reviews, including direct responsibility for: –

  • Developing and delivering a high quality research programme which is relevant to improving health in Scotland and to the needs of the NHS
  • Fostering links with other Units and academics, and with the NHS and other organisations concerned with health improvement
  • Governance arrangements within the unit including personnel management, financial control providing of regular information to CSO and the documentation, verbal presentations and all the administration for the Chief Scientist Review.

The Director will be supported by two Deputy Directors based at the University of Stirling and GCU. Other core-funded staff are Professors Marian Brady (GCU), Helen Cheyne (Stirling) and Doreen McClurg (GCU), and two Research Fellows, Dr Edward Duncan (Stirling) and Dr Alex Pollock (GCU). Although contractually located at the University of Stirling, the Director will be expected to spend equal time at GCU.
