Innovation

The Chief Scientist Office Innovation team offers a national point of guidance and coordination for innovation activity across NHS Scotland.

Our aim is to initiate and support the development of innovative solutions to respond to the real needs of patients and the NHS. The activity will improve health and social care and generate economic growth by helping life science companies grow or invest in Scotland.

We participate in Scotland’s end-to-end innovation pathway and foster collaboration from NHS, academia and industry on the development of innovative ideas into usable products, services and solutions, preparing for their national adoption across NHS Scotland.

The Chief Scientist Office funds three Regional Innovation Hubs, collectively covering all 14 territorial NHS Scotland boards. Regional Innovation Hubs provide the infrastructure, clinical expertise and technical environment to translate new technologies into viable products and services that can respond to the needs of the NHS in Scotland, or healthcare systems globally.

We work with UK bodies to ensure that Scotland is able to benefit from the range of initiatives going on at UK-level, such as the NHS Innovation Service and broader AAC (Accelerated Access Collaborative), funding derived from the UK Life Sciences Missions and research partnerships sourced through the international Science and Innovation Network (SIN).
