Clinical Academic Fellowships

Applications for the 2025 intake have now closed, the information below is for reference only.

The aim of this scheme is to build research capacity in the Scottish NHS as such it provides the opportunity for clinical professionals early in their career to undertake a PhD. The eligibility for this scheme includes doctors and dentists in training, GPs, GDP’s, NMAHPS, Healthcare scientists and Pharmacists. More information is outlined in the guidance document, please contact CSO if you are unsure or have further questions that are not covered.

The application deadline is Midday on Wednesday 22nd January 2025. 

Candidates should submit an application using the new CSO Grants Management System. You will need to make an account before you will be able to apply.  

There will be two forms will be available on the application portal, please make sure you select the relevant version. 

Please ensure that you have read the guidance document below before applying. 

All candidates will hear if they have been shortlisted for interview by the end of April.

NMAHP interviews will take place on 22nd May and Medic interviews will be held on 28th May.

CSO has partnered with the Colt Foundation for this round of funding to offer a jointly funded partnership fellowship.  

The Colt Foundation funds research into occupational and environmental causes of ill health with a particular interest in research that will inform policy and improve working conditions for all.  By partnering with CSO, the Colt Foundation wish to support clinical and allied health professional develop their long-term academic careers within the area of work and health.
