Opportunity to join the Chief Scientist Office Public Engagement Group

Posted by: Holly - Posted on:

The Chief Scientist Office (CSO) is currently seeking new members to join our Public Engagement Group (PEG). This group plays a vital role within CSO, contributing valuable input across a wide range of its activities.

PEG members provide a lay perspective on CSO’s work, helping to make sure that the public view is considered in policy and funding decisions.

The primary activity for PEG members is reviewing the final reports of our funded fellowships and grants to ensure they are understandable to a general audience. Examples of such reports can be found on the Funded Research pages.

Some PEG members also sit on various CSO Committees and Groups to offer their perspective and help make sure that the outcomes of discussions are transparent and fair.  This may involve assisting with application reviewing and helping in interviews, for example, to help us fairly assess criteria such as Patient and Public Involvement (PPI). We are especially keen to welcome new PEG members who are interested in getting involved in our committees!

The group currently meets virtually a few times per year for group information events.

To find out more about the group, please visit our CSO Public Engagement Group webpage.

Time Commitment:

PEG members typically contribute the equivalent of 3-6 days per year to attend any meetings and review final reports.

Those involved in any CSO Committees or Groups should expect a higher time commitment.

Requirements:

  • Interest in Health Research;
  • Sufficient time availability to undertake the required activities;
  • Ability to correspond with CSO by e-mail;
  • Access to Microsoft Teams for attending virtual meetings;
  • Willingness to engage with CSO’s Grants Management platform (support will be provided);

For those open to assisting in Committees/Groups, an ability to travel to St Andrews House, Edinburgh will occasionally be required.
