Are you passionate about improving health research in Scotland? Do you want to help make sure the public voice is heard in decisions that shape healthcare policy, funding, and future research?

 What PEG members do:

  • Review research project final reports to ensure they are easily understood by the public.
  • Advise on funding applications, offering insights on plain English summaries and Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) activities and helping to make funding decisions.
  • Taking part in virtual information events a few times each year.
  • Ad hoc involvement in policy or strategy discussions when public input is needed.

What’s involved?

  • PEG members meet virtually a few times per year for group information events.
  • Most activity can be done from home, including reviewing reports.
  • For those who want to take part in the reviewing of funding applications, some travel to Edinburgh is required.
  • Volunteers come from all backgrounds — no specialist knowledge required, just an interest in health research and willingness to share your perspective!

Why join?

This is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Directly influence health research in Scotland
  • Ensure studies and reports are truly accessible to the public
  • Support researchers to embed meaningful PPI in their work
  • Be part of a friendly, supportive, and impactful community
