Opportunity to Join the Chief Scientist Office Public Engagement Group

Posted by: Julie Simpson - Posted on:

We are looking to recruit new members of our public engagement group (PEG). The main role of our group is to provide a lay perspective on the activities of CSO and ensure the public view is taken into account in relevant policy and funding issues.

The group currently meets virtually, 2-3 times per year for group information events. In addition, Members are normally appointed by the Chief Scientist to one of the various CSO Committees and Groups. Members attend these Committees to provide a lay perspective and to ensure that the outcomes of discussions are transparent and fair.

Individuals are also asked to partake in particular tasks such as reviewing CSO documentation – particularly final project reports – to ensure these can be understood by the lay person, or attending additional events or activities which CSO may be involved in.

Time Commitment

3-6 days per year to attend meetings, plus time to read meeting papers.

Requirements

  • Interest in Health Research;
  • Ability to correspond with CSO by e-mail;
  • Access to Microsoft Teams for attending virtual meetings*.

*Occasional travel to Edinburgh for meetings may be required in the future.
