On October 5th the Chief Scientist Office launched the Long-term effects of COVID-19 research funding call.

Applications were invited for Scottish-led research on key aspects of Long-Covid (defined as not recovering for several weeks or months following the start of symptoms).

The response from the research community was outstanding, with 35 applications led by 13 different institutions submitted by the November 9th deadline.

CSO convened 2 expert panels to review the applications, chaired by Professor Jon Nicholl from the University of Sheffield. These panels met virtually on 2nd and 4th December. The outcome was a portfolio of 9 projects totalling around £2.5 million recommended for funding. These projects cover a wide range of approaches and address questions that will greatly increase the clinically relevant knowledge base on long-term effects of COVID-19 infection.

CSO would like to thank all of those who submitted applications at relatively short notice and the chair, members and lay members of the review panels.
