NHS Research Scotland (NRS) and Chief Scientist Office (CSO) Patient and Public Involvement Event

NRS and the CSO are hosting an event bringing together Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) partners, professionals, researchers and policy makers to share, shape and celebrate PPI happening in research across Scotland

Taking place at the V&A Dundee, 12 March 2024, 9.30am – 4pm (timings tbc) this event will consist of workshops, plenary sessions, and PPI awards.

Registration will open in January 2024. Please come along, learn, network, and share your activities and experiences.

Call for workshop abstracts

We are looking for submissions for 10-minute talks regarding patient and public involvement in research focused on the following topics (the session descriptions are indicative and not final).

If your topic does not align fully with any of the below, there will be an opportunity during the submission process to select ‘Other‘ as an option.

PPI Rewards, finances, and acknowledgementHow do you currently reward PPI partners, how have you navigated complex finance systems, including rewarding those on benefits, have you found positive ways to reward the contribution of PPI partners? How do we create positive and beneficial recognition arrangements?
Working with underserved groups in researchHave you managed to successfully develop relationships with underserved groups? How do we do better in working with those underserved by research. Share your examples and experiences to help us all work better with those underserved by research.
Working with people with additional needsAdditional needs should not exclude people from being involved in PPI activities. How do we make sure that those with additional needs are welcomed in research and how do we best support them to be involved? Bring along your experiences and views.
PPI in Data Science researchDo you work with public contributors in data science, AI and machine learning research? How have you brought the public on this journey and how do we continue to develop this work with the public in a trusted considered way?
PPI in Pre-Clinical researchDo you work with the public in pre-clinical research, with devices or in the lab? How do we work with the public on this crucial stage of research development? Come and share your experiences and how we can continue to support pre-clinical research.
Improving Clinical Trials with PPIHow do we continue to improve trials with the involvement of patients and the public? This session aims to explore how researchers across Scotland and working with patients and the public to improve the way we design and conduct clinical trials.
Impact and EvaluationHow do you currently assess the impact and evaluate PPI? What have you found and what tools do you think work best? This session intends to explore the impacts from working with PPI partners, including how we evaluate and what impact means to the PPI community.
Support for PPI in ResearchHow do we currently support PPI partners and Researchers across Scotland? What support mechanisms have you put in place? Are there gaps in the provision? How do you think we should continue to build support?
