Head of CSO appointment announced

Following a competitive process Mike Stevens, previously Acting Director of the Chief Scientist Office (CSO), has been appointed to the newly created post of Head of CSO. This new head of division job replaces the previous CSO Director and Deputy Director posts.

In his new role, Mike leads NHS Research Scotland (NRS), a partnership between the Scottish Government and Health Boards designed to make Scotland a more attractive place in which to conduct clinical trials. More generally, he has overall policy responsibility for a wide range of health research policy areas within the Scottish Government,

Mike is a career civil servant. Prior to joining CSO he had responsibility for policy relating to childrens’ services in Scotland. He managed the ground breaking Children (Scotland) Act 1995 through the UK Parliament and its subsequent implementation by social work services throughout Scotland.
